Which links work?

Regular video links (youtube.com/watch?v=…), short links (youtu.be/…), Shorts, embeds and live streams. You can also paste just the 11-character video ID.

Why is there no HD version?

YouTube only creates the 1280Ă—720 version when the uploaded video or custom thumbnail is large enough. If it is missing, the largest available size is shown instead.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Yes, it's free and needs no account. Everything happens in your browser: the image is loaded directly from YouTube's servers.

Can I use downloaded thumbnails?

Thumbnails belong to the people who made them. Use them for reference, analysis or with the owner's permission, and don't pass someone else's work off as your own.
